Worst Books of 2019
This is going to be another yearly post, but I hope you have been enjoying them so far. I know these are coming super late but I’ve been super busy this year rather than the previous year. Just in general I want to warn people reading this post that this is going to be my worst reads of the year, so if your favorite book is on here, it's not an attack against you or the book or author, the book just did not vibe with me. The books are put in no particular order because I didn’t want to call out any book in particular.
The first book I’m going to talk about is Lord of the Flies by William Golding. I gave a full review about this book when I first read it in the year. Before I get into what I didn’t like in the book, this novel is about a group of boys whose plane crashed into a deserted island. The characters in this book were kinda annoying to me, but I don’t read many novels that follow young kids in a survival situation. I did learn that I don’t really like out in the wilderness survival stories. So it wasn’t completely the books fault, it just wasn’t my type of book.
The second book that I didn’t like that
much this year was The Subtle Art of not giving a F* by Mark Manson. This book was okay, and didn’t do anything majorly wrong, I just really did not like the writing style. This was a Non-fiction book about living life by not thinking as positively. Some of the things that he said was really good and well said like how people are spoiled because everyone around the talks all positive and never tells the what they are doing wrong. That's all I have to say about this book, so let's get to the next one.
The third book on this list is Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Yes this is a classic and I know that many people love this book. I’m just not into science or scientific writing. I love Sci Fi but not when it digs too deeply into the educational science of it all. So if you don’t know Frankenstein is about a scientist named Frankenstein and he creates a monster. That's the simplest form and throughout the whole book Frankenstein is running away from his monster.
The fourth book is on this list is The Crimes
of Grindelwald by JK Rowling. This book was just okay, like it was not the best but it definitely wasn’t the worst thing I read in my life. It was about Newt Scamander going on an amazing adventure to try to save the wizarding world. The main character Newt saved this book so much and gave me a reason to finish this book. The plot seemed really flat, but the movie was really good so I would just go in that direction if you want to consume this story.
The final book on this list is Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab. This book wasn’t bad, it just was disappointing for me. I loved the first book so much, it was so amazing and there was no romance. Both
characters in the first book were striving for a goal and save the people that they care about. In the second book the characters just felt different, like they were not themselves and the author added romance that came out of the blue. I won’t say too much about this book since it is a second book, but the first book is about a girl named, Kate Harker who wants to be a harsh ruler just like her father and a monster who doesn’t want to hurt anyone.
Those are some of the worst books I read this year, but this list was really hard to make because I had such a good reading year. I hope that you guys did too. What was your guys reading year like.
