Hey guys sorry it has definitely been a while, but both October and November has been crazy for me. I had to get in my college applications which I hope to get into. Wish me luck guys, but that's not why your here. In the last two months I read 7 books, but 4 of them were connected to school.
The first book I read was for my AP Literature class, and it was Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. This is a classic book that was a masterpiece for its time since it follows a strong female main character. In the time period that this was written Jane was seen as a disgrace because she had her own opinions and talks back to the people around her. The main plot of this book followed Jane going through her life starting as a child until her adult years. I gave this book four stars because of the ending which I will not spoil for you.
The second book I read is for my Senior
Ex project, and it was Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman. This book is about mental illness and the author gives the reader some examples about what the character might have but he never confirms it. This book follows a main character named Caden Bosch, and how he is always lost in his own mind even when people; were around him. This story was also told in two perspectives, from two parts of his life, one from a reality when he’s on the sea and one from his real life where he’s going to school and hanging out with his friends. I enjoyed this book and gave it four stars.
The next book I read was also for Senior Ex and it was such an amazing book that made me super happy. It is called They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera, and I gave it a five out of five stars. The characters made me so happy because they were literally the cutest thing on planet earth. The first character we meet is Mateo and he is so scared of everything especially on his death day, which I will explain more later. The second main character is named Rufus and he is such a strong hearted character that cares so much for his family and friends but he refuses to show that he cares. The main plot revolves around getting a phone call the day your going to die so someone can go out and live the day to the fullest. When Mateo got his call he started to freak and have panic attacks until he starts talking to Ruffus over an app for people who got their Death Day call. This book had really good discussions on death and how to deal with death and grief.
The last book I read in October was NOS4A2 by Joe Hills and It was a 4.5 star novel. I took
off half a star because the novel had some really slow spots but when the action scenes were going on it was so good and entertaining. This book was about Vic Mcqueen and her son. Charles Manx kidnapped Vic’s son because she was the only one to get away from him, because he tried to kidnap her when she was younger. Charles Manx kidnaps children because he steals their youth and turns them into vampire like creatures that he controls in a place called Christmas Land. I would recommend this book if you like Stephen King because Joe Hills has the same writing style which makes since as he is Stephen King's son.
The final book I read was my favorite book this month, and maybe my favorite book of this year but I guess we’ll see on other blog post. This book is SuperNova by Marissa Meyer. This book was obviously a five out of five stars because it had to much action and was an amazing ending/3rd book of the Renegades trilogy. Since this is the third book I’ll discuss the premise of the first book, Renegades, Nova, the main character, infiltrates the Renegades, a superhero group that rules over the people. She is apart of the group, The Anarchist, which are the super villains to the Renegades. This story is able to have gray characters and discuss how nobody should have all of the power no matter how good they seem to be and it shows that nothing is pure good or pure evil.
Those are the 7 books I read the last couple of months.
What have you guys been reading, hopefully everyone is doing good during the holiday season?
Happy Holidays!
