June and July

Hey guys! Sorry I haven’t been posting as often as I once did, but this summer was crazy busy with a bunch of traveling and family time. I have read quite a few books this past couple of months. I read 11 books in June and July!

The first book I read was a re-read and that was Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. This is the first book in The Peculiar children series (I don’t know if this is the actual title but that's what I call it). This book talks about the main character, Jacob Portman and how he is dealing with his grandfather's death. After his grandfather died he was thrusted into his grandfather's past and his world. That's all you need to know about this book before going in but it was so good and I gave it a ⅘ stars.

The next book I read was Bittersweet by Winnie Mack, This book made me feel all of the feelings but it's not a book of literature but it's a really fun read, I gave it a ⅗ stars. This book was about a soccer player who develops diabetes and passes out on the field. It made me cry because I’m also a soccer player and I would have trouble with this. The main character also had a sweet tooth so she had trouble keeping her sugar normal. My favorite character in this novel is Samatha’s, the main character, best friend, Emily: She is just so amazing because she just wants to be there for her friend and take care of her. Read this book if you want an emotional story that talks about getting to know yourself and how that can affect the people around you.

The next book was a re-read and a second book in the Peculiar Children Series, Hollow City by Ransom Riggs. I’m not going to say a lot about this book because of spoilers but it does follow Jacob and his adventure with characters he meets in the first book. He also finds out how to try to control his powers. This book gave me so many emotions because all of the main characters are growing up and growing in personality. The character development in this book made me so happy so I gave this story a ⅘ stars.

The last story I read in June was one of my best friends favorite books, Awake by Natasha Preston. This book was a thriller but the love story behind it showed a lot of instalove, but otherwise it was a really good book. This book followed Scarlett and her journey to discover her memories, which she lost when she was four. This book also discusses cults and issues between the family keeping secrets about Scarletts memory. I gave this book a 3.5/5 stars.

July was an amazing reading month since I participated in The Reading Rush. The first book I read was another re-read Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs. This was the third book in Peculiar Children series. I can’t really explain the plot but if you read this book, the ending made me cry, the family dynamics of it made me so happy to see. That's all I can say without spoiling it, so my star rating is ⅘.

The next book I read was a huge disappointment and that was Lord of the Flies by William

Golding. I’m just going to start with my rating which is a ⅖ star. I know that a lot of people would disagree with me but the writing style just did not work for me. I will be writing a review for this to discuss some of my main problems. This book was a historical fiction novel about a group of boys who crashed onto a deserted island and all of the adults were killed during this crash. This group had to work together to get rescued but sense there were no adults some of the boys went savage.

The next few books were read for The Reading Rush. The first book I read for that was FanGirl by Rainbow Rowell. This book had such good representation with anxiety at least in my experience. I really enjoyed my time reading this book but I feel that the ending just left off and there was not a complete ending. That is the only reason why this book got a 3.5/5 stars because I was really enjoying myself until that point. This book was about this girl named Cath and she has social anxiety, but she has to go to college and figure out how to deal with her mental health and her fanfiction that she is writing. I do recommend this story if you don’t mind an open ending.

The next book I read was a Meh book, Our

Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab. This book was alright but it was a sequel to This Savage Song which was such an amazing book and it just did not live up to the first book. The second one in my opinion didn’t really go anywhere until the very end. That is one of the reasons I gave it a ⅗ stars. The author also added an unnecessary romance in this book that I believe that unneeded. This book was also taken place a long time after the first novel ends. So the first novel was about our main characters Kate Harker and August, Kate was human and August was a monster. In this book the human wanted to be ruthless like her father but the monster did not want to be a monster. This series was still really good, so read it if it sounds interesting to you.

The next three books are amazing and all five star reads, but then again ⅔ of these are re-reads. I re-read Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. This book is about Simon, who is closeted gay, and he is on a journy to find out a way to come out to his family. This book had so many aspects that I personally loved, a loving family, sarcastic main character, and blackmail. Everything about this book lined up for me.

The second to last book I read during this read-a-thon was my grandmother asked me to tell you she’s sorry by Fredrik Backman. This book brought me to tears, made me laugh, made me mad. It literally gave me all the feels. Now that I got that out let me tell you what its about, a girl named Elsa, who is seven years old. She is different from the rest of the people her age because she is a complete Harry Potter fangirl, which there are a lot of references too which I appreciated as a fan girl myself. So the main plot of this story was the grandmother sending Elsa on a quest after she dies to explore her past and apologize to the people she has hurt in the past (Mentally).

The final book I read in July was a re-read

and it was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling. This series is my favorite of all time so I will re-read and re-read it. I try to make it a yearly thing so I’ll probably read the second one soon. If you didn’t know this book is about a boy named Harry Potter who is a wizard but his aunt and uncle try to keep him away from Hogwarts. Harry also ends up making two best friends, Ron and Hermione who end up saving each other from different events that happen.

If you made it this far thank you so much. Have you guys read anything good lately let me know?
