April and May Books
In between the two months I didn’t post my recent reads, I read a total of 9 books. The first book I read was actually a non-fiction book called The Zodiac by Robert Graysmith. This book was so good and I gave it a ⅘ stars. This book gave so much detail on the Zodiac killer which I did not know about until I read this book. Even though it was non-fiction the author made it into a narrative so it was very informational, but he did not just list straight facts.
The next book I read was Bionic by
Suzanne Weyn, and I rated it a ⅘ stars. The only reason it did not get a full five stars was because the book was really short so the plot moved really quickly. This book was about a star athlete in Lacrosse named Mira and how she had to deal with her life after a tragic car crash. This story hit me personally in the feelings because I’m an athlete and I wouldn’t know what to do without my sports. It truly made me think about my future and how I would cope in this situation. I would recommend other athletes to read this book, but if anyone wants an emotional story this book will make you cry.
Finally I finished The Two Towers by J.R.R Tolkien, which took me like 2 months to finish. I did give this book 3 stars, but that was just because the plot was a little slow for my personal taste. I will be trying to finish the third one this year, but I currently do not own it. If you guys did not know this series is about Frodo Baggins and his journey to destroy the ring before it gets into the wrong hands. The plot, world and characters are very complex and sometimes even too much detail is given, but the characters are very well developed and it makes the stakes even higher for the reader.
The final book I read in April is To All the
Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han. I gave it a 5/5 stars. I did not expect to love it that much because I thought that it was just going to be another teen romance. The romance part was super cute because well Peter Kavinsky was an amazing love interest. My favorite part of this book was the family aspect though, because Laura Jean was super close with both of her sisters and her father. Each character had their own personality, the reader was truly able to understand each character even if they did not have a lot of time in the story.
The first book I read during the month of May was The Mermaids Voice Returns in this One by Amanda Lovelace. This book was a poetry book and the last book in Women are magic series. This book mostly talked about the author's personal experience about partner abuse and how she got through those times. This book was really well done and talked about a lot of important topics. If you want to know more about this book, check out my other post that discussed the series as a whole.
This next book I read for school, my AP
Lang class, In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. Reading this for school made the reading situation not great especially since it was a really rushed read. I gave this book a ⅗ stars so it was an okay book. This book disused how Dick and Perry murdered the Clutter family down in Kansas, which was a true story.
After finishing In Cold Blood, I finished the last two books in To All the Boys I loved Before, PS I still Love you and Always and Forever by Jenny Han. I gave PS I still Love you a ⅘ stars and Always and Forever a 3.5/5 stars. These novels both made me cry and think about my own life personally. These books talk about high school and getting into college. The topic that probably hit me the hardest was when Laura Jean had to change her entire plan and move away from her boyfriend.
The final book I read this month was Girl Stolen by April Henry. This was a super short book so it was only given a ⅗ star. This story was about a blind female getting kidnapped and how she ends up surviving. One of the problems that I had with this book is that she fell in love with one of her kidnappers. That did not truly ruin the book because the author did try to make that certain character kind to her and go against his family to save her.
Here is some of the books I have recently read. If you find any of these books, check them out and let me know what you personally think?
