February and March Recent Reads
Here are some of the books I’ve read in the last couple of months. Sorry that this is coming out really late, but I’ve been distracted with reading and that's been a priority instead of writing. I do hope to get back into writing more, but before I start ranting let's get into the books I’ve been reading.
The first book I read was
for my AP Lit class, Rosencranz and Guildenstern by Tom Stoppard. This book is set in the Elizabethian and Modern day era as they switch between the two settings in language and in surroundings. This book is written during the event of Hamlet by William Shakepeare. It follows two main characters Rosencranz and Guildenstern through their journey dealing with death and luck. This book was an alright read for me, but I did like the discussions in this book.
The second book I read was a buddy read
with one of my best friends from school and it was a thriller book. Murdered at 17 by Christine Connadt. I loved this book, it was a really quick read that made me super interested in what was going to happen next. I gave this book four and half stars because it was amazing but the main character always said the right answer in the mystery but never followed her gut. This book follows a girl named Brooke who has a mental illness, which causes her to get angry over the smallest things. Her best friend Maddie was murdered and Brooke thinks that it was her fault but she does not remember anything from that night. That's all I’ll tell you about because spoilers! I would recommend it.
The last book I read during February was also for my AP Lit class, The Inferno by Dante Alighieri. This is a translated novel from Italian to English and the translator was John Ciardi. This book is about Dante’s journey through the nine circles of Hell. This book discusses what it means to have justice. At least that's what I took out of it, because each punishment had to fit the sin that it was paired with. I enjoyed this book a lot because of all the important discussions/themes throughout this novel. If you want more of my in depth thoughts check out my book review on my blog. And yes I did just place a self plug, don’t judge me.
I’m going to start talking about the books that I read in March, but I was a little slumpish during March because of everything that was happening during March.
The first book I read during March was a novella called Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad.
This book is about colonization of Africa and how it really affects all people involved. It follows the main character Marlow who is a sailer and he goes to Africa to help Europe colonize Africa. This novel is not something I can really explain because to understand the story you would have to look at it from a whole since it is a frame story. In my opinion the beginning of this book dragged a little bit, but I really enjoyed the ending.
The last two books I read were re-reads and they were To all the Boys I’ve Loved Before and PS I Still Love You by Jenny Hans. I read these two books because they are beautiful romances that also have a lot of drama. It will make you go “Aww” but it can also make you feel all the drama going on in the character's life. These books are really good, the first book I gave five stars and the second book four stars. I gave the second book four stars because of how the girls talk about each other's bodies and that kinda annoyed me a bit but it was so good. The first book was about this girl named Lara Jean and she had to deal with her personal love letters being sent out. She wrote love letters for every boy she has ever had a crush on and those letters got sent out and she had to figure out how to deal with those consequences. I loved the first book because of the relationship between Peter and Lara Jean because I found it to be so cute. These books were also a comfort read for me and it pulled me out of a book slump so I was happy.
Those were the books I read during February and March. What have you guys been reading? Have you guys been reading a lot since Quarantine or did it put you into a reading slump? Let me know and Stay safe!
