Recent Reads-August & September

Hello everyone, sorry I haven’t posted in a while school started again so here are the books I have read so far at the beginning of the school year. The amount of books I read the last two months were nine books.

The first book I read in August was How to Read like a Professor by Thomas Foster. This is a nonfiction novel that I had to read for my AP Literature class and it talked about how to look at a literature novel and understand what the author was trying to get across. Some of the topics were allusion, weather and what violence means. It was a super interesting book, but I’m not really a nonfiction person so I only gave it three stars.

The next book I finished was an amazing

read that was scary, and it was IT by Stephen King. This book has some of my favorite characters of all time, Richie and Eddie. By the way, I did not start this book this month, because it was super long and took me six months to read. The plot is pretty much surrounding a group of friends trying to fight a force of all evil, Pennywise. That is the very basics of the plot because there is so much more going on with the relationships among the characters. There is some action but in my opinion this is a very character driven story which I enjoyed but some of the parts were really slow, so I only gave it four stars but it is still one of my favorites.

After I finished IT I needed a lighter story so I picked up Fantastic Beast: The Crimes of Grindelwald The Original Screenplay by JK Rowling. This book was an okay book, and I know that some people absolutely hate it, but I really loved Newt Scamander so it's okay. The plot is about Newt breaking the rules and trying to fight against Grindelwald. I gave it a three star and that's really all I have to say about this book.

The fourth book I read was actually an audio book, and it was Shit my Dad Says by Justin Halpern. This was also a nonfiction book, but it was so good because the author wrote it in a really relatable way, but he was discussing real events that happened in his life. I did give this book a four out of five stars because this book was good but it's definitely not one of my all time favorites, but I would definitely recommend it.

The next book I read was a re-read and you know it was a five star read Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JK Rowling. This book is following Harry through his second year at Hogwarts and how he deals with certain evils coming his way. Sorry for the light explanation but its a second book in a series. This reread made me so Happy I love these characters and this world and yes I know its basic but I love this series. But let's move on before this becomes a Harry Potter review.

The final book I read in August was A Map of Days by Ransom Riggs. This book was

absolutely amazing and it was my favorite book of the Peculiar children series because of the character development. This book is about Jacob and Emma and the rest of the children trying to figure out who they are in a modern world. The characters and their conflict was amazing because everyone had different morals to what was right. As a result of my love for this book I gave it a 5/5 stars.

The first book I read in September is another audiobook, The Subtle Art of not Giving an F* by Mark Manson. This book was okay but some parts were overly vulgar where the author didn’t need to be but that was mostly at the beginning and the book got way better after about the first 20%. By the way, I gave this Nonfiction book three stars. Pretty much what this book discussed was being able to understand what to care about and how much of yourself to give to that thing.

The next two books are books that I had to read for my AP Literature class, and the first one was Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. I really enjoyed this book even though it was really short, it was definitely something I would go back and reread. I gave this book five stars. The book is about the two characters George, and Lennie and how they live their lives sense Lennie has a mental disorder that is not stated. These two characters parallel each other perfectly and they are able to truly show what friendship means.

The last book I read was Frankenstein by

Mary Shelley. This book was about a guy named Frankenstein and he created life but he immentaly left the monster because he was terrified about what he just to get out. I gave it three stars, I just didn’t like the writing this month so I couldn’t just fall into the story but it was definitely good.

Those are the books I’ve read in August and September. I will try to go back to posting once a week but school really has been crazy so I guess we’re going to have to see. If you have read any of these books let me know what you thought of them?
