Hello welcome back to our own little book town where I write about random book things! Again here is a late recent reads of mine, for the last couple of months. In June and July I read about 13 books which is absolutely crazy because I never read that much. How has your reading been going?
The first book I read was You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. This book was a thriller/mystery book who followed the main character Shay Miller. Shay Miller was living a lonely life, where she only wants love. She was not only stuck in her love life but also in her career as a computer specialist. All of this change when she saw someone on the train commit suidcide. Since this is a thriller that's all I’ll tell you about the plot, because it's better when you go in only knowing a little bit. I thought this was an okay thriller, I gave it two and a half stars. The plot was somewhat interesting but it didn’t entertain me the whole way through but that might have been because of the writing style. Have any of you guys read this thriller.
The next book I read in June was Lara Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me by Mariko Tamaki.
This was a graphic novel that discussed important topics like toxic relationships, and abortions. This book also has a lesbien representation. So the actual plot of this book starts with our main character Frederica Riley and Lara Dean breaking up with her for the first time in the book. This shows that this is the on again and off again relationship because Lara Jean is a horrible girlfriend that keeps breaking Rileys heart. This book is an important read but the plot execution was kinda all over the place but I still gave it three stars.
The next book I read was a book that I borrowed from a really close friend of mine, and it was called, The Bookworm Crush by Lisa Browns Roberts. This book's main character is Amy who is really shy but she is also a huge bookworm. Amy really wants to join a competition that if she wins, she gets to meet her favorite author that hasn’t met with anyone for years. But if she wants to win, she has to hire her long term crush who is a famous surfer. I loved this book so I gave it five stars! The romance was so cute, and it had the opposites attract trope.
The fourth book I read was Shadow and
Bones by Leigh Bardugo. This is the first book in the Grisha trilogy which is the first trilogy that Leigh Bardugo wrote. This book is about Alina who is an orphan and has to find a way to fight against the Darkling. I would say more about the plot of this book but that would be spoilers. There is also a romance in this book that makes my heart melt even though it is kind of predictable. I gave this book a five stars but that is mostly because I fell in love with Leigh Bardugos writing style. The quotes in this book make me so happy and sometimes really sad as the society this world is built on focuses on the poor and the lack of help that they get.
The final book I read well listened to was on audiobook… and it happened to be 50 Shades of Gray by EL James. I know… I know not what you thought I would be listening to but the story was interesting and entertaining so it was good for when I didn’t want to think too hard. This book followed Anastasia Steele and how she went through her daily life before and after she meet Mr. Cristain Gray. But you know what this book is about so I’ll just move on with my life.
The first book I read in July was Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo. This book followed Alina’s story or at least a continuation of her story and how she is growing into herself. This is the second book in the Grisha Trilogy. This book is about growing up and learning more about yourself and receiving more responsibilities. This book had a very slow beginning so I only gave it four stars. But like I said before I love Leigh Bardugo and her writing.
The second book I read this month was Why I’m No Longer Talking To White People About Race
by Reni Eddo Lodge. This was a nonfiction book that talks about British history and the racism that follows that history. I didn’t give this book a rating because I haven’t read enough books like this to really grasp what these types of books are supposed to feel like.
The third book I read this month was Iris,
Messenger by Sarah Deming. This book was about a little girl named Iris Greenwold and how she went on a journey around her town to find the Greek Gods living human lifes. This book really showed how having a big heart even during hard times can help yourself and others. I gave this book a three and half stars because it definitely could have been longer but otherwise the story was entertaining and powerful.
The next book I read was Girl Up by Laura Bates. This was a nonfiction book about feminism and it used humor and facts to make the novel super fascinating. The author was able to add hands-on material in this novel like a page where you color in something (I won’t spoil that for you)! This book was so good, so it earned 5 stars.
The final book in this post is going to be
You Will Be Mine by Nasha Preston. This book is about Lylah and how strange things start happening around Valentines Day, about how her friends are starting to get murdered. The twist in this book actually had me on the edge of my seat and completely surprised. If you read a lot of mysteries you might not be surprised. I honestly loved this book because of the wonderful cast of characters.
The other three books that I read this month can be found on my Reading Rush Wrap Up, so if you wanna know more about those go check it out. How has your reading been going? Have any of you started school?
