How To Beat Writer's Block
Writer's block sucks but every writer goes through it, and every writer has to deal with it in their own way. I just personally got over writer's block, so here are some of the tips and tricks I used and pre-warning: clichés work.
Tip #1: Try to write a little bit everyday, even if it is just a sentence or two, it’ll slowly add up through the entire block. Even if they are no good, the famous tip is, “You can’t edit a blank page.” Some writing blocks are shorter where this tip is less useful, but when it comes to longer blocks all of these sentences will add up.
Tip #2: If your not in the mood to write, read more! Yes I know this is a cliché but it definitely works. If you find a book that you really love during a writing slump then you would want to live up to that novel.
Tip #3: Try writing shorter stories! Take a break from writing a long novel, but try writing a short story. For sure, short stories are hard to write but if you can finish a story than maybe you could find inspiration to keep writing your main project.
Tip #4: Go outside and do something! Live your life and use that for inspiration in your writing. Most of my characters personally come out of other people's looks and how they act, because just watching people gives me inspiration. Hopefully you will be able to find motivation in this way too.
Tip #5: My final tip is to journal about what's been going on in your own life. Journaling could help you get to a deeper meaning about what's going on in your own life and why the writing block happened. For me it helps me realize when I’m super stressed or whenever I get super emotional which is usually the caused for my writing block. Journaling helps me and hopefully it will help you realize where your writing block is coming from.
I hope these tips help out for everyone who is having trouble finding motivation and inspiration on finishing their current writing project. What tips do you guys have? What kind of writing project are you guys writing? Let me know!
