Book Recommendations for Quarantine

There is a lot going on in our world currently, and for some people being in quarantine has caused a lot of anxiety and fear. I know reading has really helped me get some of this whole situation out of my mind. I’m hoping that I can help you with finding good books to read during this situation.

The first recommendation that I would give is Heretics Anonymous by Katie Henry. I read this book either last year or the year before and it made my favorites of the year. It made me laugh, cry, and get super excited for the characters. This book follows an atheist going to a christian school because his dad forced him too after he got kicked out of his other schools and he made friends with many different kinds of people. The author was able to show that people should not judge someone based on their religion.

The next recommendation for this time is

Love, StarGirl by Jerry Spinelli. This is such a quick book to read because it is a middle grade. A movie also just came out on Disney + and it would be a great thing and then watch the movie right after. The story is about the life of StarGirl and the book is her diary as she goes through moving to a new school and her new crush, Leo. It is super entertaining and I still remember reading it even though I haven’t read it for a couple of years.

My third recommendation would be a longer book that has rated R material so please be careful when picking it up. It by Stephen King! I love this book so much, it has one of my favorite characters Richie. This book follows a group of kids who have to fight a clown named Pennywise. This book also shows the characters when they are older. It does take a little bit longer to read but maybe you’ll have more sense we can’t really go outside much anymore.

My fourth recommendation is a classic that I read during Freshman year, which was three years ago. Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury which is about a society who burns books because they give other people thoughts. This book discusses technology and what happens when people stop thinking and stop reading. It's a short book but it has so much value.

My final recommendation for this list

would be Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. This is a three book series like Illuminae, Gemina and Obsidio. All of these books are written in a different format as the story is told through emails and other files, plus there are pictures. This story is about two warring ships trying to take over the earth, but it also has a relationship at the core Kady and Ezra. These books are pretty long but it is a really quick read because of the format it was written in.

These are some great books that I would recommend reading during these tough times. I hope that everyone stays safe and healthy! Love you guys!
