Best Books in 2019

This is one of my favorite posts to make because I love talking about my favorite books of the year. This year I had a really good reading year as my average rating is high three stars, low four stars. I’ve had nine five star books in total but here are my top 6 because honestly I could not just choose five, but let's stop my rambling and just get started.

My sixth favorite book of the year is a recent read that I’ve read which is Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia. This book was so good and it made me so happy and emotional while reading it. I’ve been working on this blog for about a year now and it became my baby, and I personally deal with anxiety. I read this book for an essay I’m writing about anxiety representation in young adult novels. This book just made me super emotional because her anxiety was improving because she had friends help her out through the dark times and through her brightest moments. The romance was also super cute, Wallace, who is strong and muscular but he’s also super smart, has a deep past and also deals with his own anxiety. The main plot of this book is about Eliza trying to finish her web comic and deal with her social anxiety.

My fifth favorite book is a classic that I read in my AP English class… Of Mice and Men by

John Steinbeck. This book is super short, but it is also super good and has a good representation on mental health. This book follows two characters George and Lennie, both have very different personalities and physical appearances, George is small and smart and Lennie is big and dumb. But there are so many other traits that both characters held. This book uses these drastically two different characters to tell a story of two best friends trying to start a life together. This book talked about mental illness, friendships, and running away from the past.

My fourth favorite book of the year is To All the Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han. This was literally the cutest book ever invented in human history, it even has one of my favorite romance tropes, fake dating. The main character Laura Jean is a shy, introverted character who is smart and has a great fashion sense. Peter Kavinsky is the male love interest that is good looking, a good talker and a deep thinker. Both characters are different but together they are super cute and adorable. The plot of this book is how Laura Jean’s love letters get sent out mysteriously, and the love letters are written because when Laura Jean is trying to get over a crush she writes a love letter.

Time for the top Three favorite books! Book Number Three is My grandmother asked me to tell

you she sorry by Fredrik Backman. This book followed a seven year old named Elsa and she is super into Harry Potter and she is being bullied in school because she is very different from the other kids and she is also very smart. This book made me cry multiple times because the book just makes you care so much about all of the characters. This book talks about bullying, grieving, cheating and readers.

My second favorite book of the year is

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera. This book has two perspectives one from Rufus and one from Mateo. Rufus family is dead and lives in a home for children who have lost their family or has run away from their family. The second main character is Mateo and he has anxiety over death and not living life to the fullest, but once he gets his Death Day call he doesn’t want to leave his apartment. Both of these characters meet over an app for Deckers or people who are about to die that day. This story was cute and sad and definitely made me cry.

The Number One book I read was Supernova by Marissa Meyer. This is a third and final book in the Renegades series and the ending made me so happy but emotional, but I won’t tell you spoilers. There is not much I can say about this specific book because of spoilers for the other two. The first book, Renegades was about a strong female character, Nova and her fight against the Renegades and for the Anarchist. Both groups are mortal enemies because they do follow the same morals. The story had both high intensity plot line and gray characters that made me not know who to root for.

Those were my favorite books of the year, what were you favorite books of the year? What are your reading plans for the rest of the year?
